Rangers icon Andy Goram dies aged 58

Rangers have announced that Legendary Rangers Goalkeeper Andy Goram dies aged 58 after a short battle with cancer.

Former Rangers goalkeeper, Andy Goram, has sadly passed away at the age of 58 after a short battle with cancer. In a statement that was released this morning Rangers said:

“Rangers Football Club are today deeply saddened to announce the death of our Legendary goalkeeper, Andy Goram, following a short battle with cancer”

The statement went on to list his incredible career which saw him make 260 appearances for the Gers between 1991 and 1998, where he managed to accumulate an impressive ten trophies, five of them being the league title.

Goram was well known for his outstanding saves, some of the best he saved for the fierce old firm games as he was more often than not the difference in the games, something that made the Scot become a fan favourite at Ibrox.

The statement concluded with the club’s players, staff and directors paying a tribute to Andy Goram:

“The thoughts of the directors, management, players and staff are today with Andy’s family, and would ask that their privacy is respected at this sad time. Funeral details will be communicated in due course.”

Although Goram had most of his success at Ibrox, he also played for clubs such Motherwell where he made 57 appearances for the Steelmen between 1998-2001. Whilst at Motherwell, he made an impressive loan move to Manchester United where he made two appearances under fellow Scot Alex Ferguson.

After his time at Motherwell, the keeper moved across to fellow Lanarkshire rivals, Hamilton, but he only made a single appearance. The Scottish keeper also racked up an impressive 43 caps for his country.

Tributes from fans, fellow players and clubs have been flowing in as the day goes on.
