Rangers hero Kevin Thomson lined up for Championship job after shock resignation but 'stumbling blocks' emerge

Former Rangers and Hibs midfielder Kevin Thomson is reportedly in pole position to become Cove Rangers boss.

The Aberdeen-based club are in the Championship for the 2022/23 season after winning the third tier last term.

Boss Paul Hartley has left for pastures new and now Thomson has been eyed as his replacement following a year at Kelty Hearts, according to the Daily Record.

He won League Two at New Central Park in the spring but departed in search of full-time opportunities.

Two things could derail a move for the 37-year-old. One is the club’s part-time status and the distance from his family in Edinburgh may prove to be 'stumbling blocks.'

Thomson started his coaching career at Rangers’ youth academy before making the switch to Fife last summer.

In that time he has continued punditry work with the Ibrox club's media team while he was also interviewed for the Kilmarnock job before it was offered to Derek McInnes. Thomson also pulled out of contention for Raith Rovers' management gig.
