Rangers hero Ally McCoist on growing worries of Celtic fans

Ally McCoist insists that 'restless natives' at Celtic Park have told him they're growing increasingly concerned over their team's 'lack of fight'.

The Rangers hero told talkSPORT this morning as he addressed a second successive league defeat for Brendan Rodgers' side at the weekend.

While Philippe Clement's side lifted the first silverware of the campaign with a 1-0 win over Aberdeen on Sunday, the title race was thrown wide open as Hearts triumphed at Parkhead on Saturday.

Lawrence Shankland and Stephen Kingsley scored as the Jambos traveled back to Edinburgh with all three points.

The disappointing 2-0 loss was met by audible boos at full time by the Celtic faithful, as they watched their side slump to another defeat in the Premiership. The result followed on from Kilmarnock's 2-1 win the week prior at Rugby Park.

Rangers have two games in hand over their arch-Glasgow rivals, as Celtic remain five points ahead at the summit.

However, McCoist has revealed that his Celtic-supporting mates are becoming very worried.

He said: "The natives are getting pretty restless. You know what it's like at Celtic and Rangers. You are only 90 minutes, or 45 minutes, away from a disaster or a crisis. I don't think they were very good (against Hearts).

"I watched the Kilmarnock second half and they weren't good. Kilmarnock were excellent – you have got to qualify that. They had a good result midweek against Feyenoord but they were seemingly well beaten at the weekend.

"I was speaking to a few of the boys, mates who were at the game, (and they were) really disappointed, really disappointed. They said there was a lack of fight. Interesting times at Celtic."

Meanwhile, Cameron Carter-Vickers has pinpointed one area where he believes Celtic need to improve to halt their slump in form and get their Scottish title challenge back on track – breaking down teams with packed defences.

The Parkhead club struggled to beat St Johnstone at McDiarmid Park in the cinch Premiership earlier this month – and have since lost to Kilmarnock away and Hearts at home in the league.
