Rangers hero Ally McCoist in 'rubbish' Kilmarnock verdict as he calls for top flight rule

Ally McCoist believes Scotland's top flight should be played on only GRASS as he branded the plastic pitches 'rubbish'.

The Rangers hero was on commentary duo for Sky last night as his old club and Kilmarnock served up a five-goal thriller at Rugby Park on the astro surface. The pundit - who has established himself as a real fans' favourite up and down the country - believes it was an excellent game despite the pitch the two sets of players had to play on. The 60-year-old is adamant that it should be grass and grass only in our top league as he hit out at the 'all weather' call off at Livingston's Tony Macaroni Arena - another artificial surface.

He told talkSPORT: "It's rubbish, it's just rubbish. I mean I understand plastic pitches, I get it. But, in my opinion, top flight football is grass and that is it. It's not on for me mate. We had the Livingston one, which is meant to be all weather was called off last night. The all weather track gets called off."

Michael Beale maintained his unbeaten record at Ibrox as his men once again showed their powers of recovery to claim all three pointsin Ayrshire.

The Light Blues went behind to an early Chris Stokes header but Alfredo Morelos levelled midway through the first half before Ryan Kent turned the game on its head inside the opening five minutes of the second period.

Morelos grabbed his second of the evening with a close-range header before defender Joe Wright pulled one back for the ten-man hosts, who had Danny Armstrong sent-off, with a stunning volley.

Discussing the game and despite the plastic pitch, McCoist felt it was an excellent watch. He added: "Good game, it was very good game, I think I said to you, Al, I worked the two semi finals at the weekend, Kilmarnock vs Celtic and Rangers vs Aberdeen. They were great games, they really were. And so was last night. It was an excellent game."
