Rangers hero Ally McCoist breaks silence on I'm A Celeb 'talks'

Ally McCoist was this morning grilled over reported talks to appear on I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!

The Rangers legend is thought to be a target for bosses of the hit ITV show with advanced talks reportedly ongoing.

The Mirror claims the 62-year-old is in discussions over heading Down Under for the jungle after recently receiving an OBE for services to football and broadcasting.

The popular pundit faced questions over the speculation on talkSPORT this morning but refused to give anything away, albeit not shutting down the possibility of taking part.

Co-host Alan Brazil joked McCoist could be forced to join the show by wife Vivien should a one million pound fee be offered to the Ibrox legend.

In response, McCoist said: “You know the drill lads - I’ll do what I’m told! To be fair, I could do with losing a stone and a half.”

Further pushed on whether there is any substance to the rumours by Gabby Agbonlahor, McCoist remained coy but did not rule it out.

The Rangers legend has previously turned down I'm A Celeb on two occasions - in 2019 and 2022.

Agbonlahor prodded: “The jungle - yes or no?” McCoist simply responded: “I don’t know.”

“Oh, you don’t know? That’s not a no," said Agbonlahor. "You can tell us Ally, we won’t tell anyone.”

“A million bucks. If you were up for a million wee Viv says you’re going. Pack your bags McCoist, you’re going," Brazil said to his radio co-host.

"I’m going to speak to Coral shortly and have a bet on you…. not to turn up. You’ll be American Express Platinum soon. An ambassador with where you’re going."

A source quoted by The Mirror, said: “Ally has such a huge fan base thanks to his years of commentating and punditry, plus his long stint on A Question of Sport.

"He’d be great for the jungle - as his wife and kids have been telling him forever - so everyone is really hopeful that this will be the year.”

On previously turning down approaches from I'm A Celeb, McCoist said:  “I'm not a fan of cockroaches! The bit where you jump out of the helicopter or plane at the start - I'd like to do that. But then the rest is downhill.

"You don't really know until you're there, but I actually think being in the coffin with the rats and snakes - from where I'm sitting right now - I don't think that would bother me that much."
