Rangers haven't replaced surprise player as Kris Boyd sends 'fingers burned' Aaron Ramsey message

Ally McCoist says he is surprised that Rangers didn’t add any deadline day signings to their squad ahead of the Old Firm derby.

Rangers transfer window was analysed in front of the Sky Sports cameras as pundits discussed the lack of activity as the window slammed shut this week. The panel discussed Giovanni van Bronckhorst's squad from Celtic Park as they previewed the huge clash with arch rivals Celtic.

Kris Boyd was asked about Rangers lack of dealings despite securing the Champions League Group stage money. But the ex-Gers striker insisted that Rangers got their business done early in the window as he pointed to previous deadline day mishaps. Boyd referred back to the mixed review signings of Aaron Ramsey and Amad Diallo as he insisted Rangers squad is strong enough to challenge for the title.

He said: “I think (for a lot of teams) when it comes to the end of that transfer window you could be scrambling about trying to get players in.

“And you’ve got say Rangers maybe got their fingers burnt with Diallo and Ramsey in the past transfer window. I think that a lot of people have moaned about it but Rangers got their business done early.”

Ranger hero McCoist however raised concerns over forward areas and the back, hinting that the club haven’t replaced defender Leon Balogun, who has joined QPR: “I'm a little bit surprised that there is no movement, particularly in forward areas.

"Still a little bit of concern in central defence obviously playing Sands in there. I think he’s done very well, I don’t think they have replaced Balogun and Katic is away.

“So I’m a little bit surprised particularly after getting the money through for the qualification of the (Champions League) group stages at the same time I heard big Boydy quite rightly say a lot of the work was done before hand, but if you ask me in my honest opinion, I’m a little bit surprised.”
