Rangers handed Auston Trusty transfer boost with Arsenal 'ready to cash in' on three players

Rangers have been handed a major boost over Auston Trusty, according to a report.

The Ibrox men have been linked with a move for the Arsenal defender as Michael Beale continues his summer overhaul. The Light Blues waved goodbye to five departing stars in the final home game of the season with Alfredo Morelos, Ryan Kent, Filip Helander and Scott Arfield all seeking new challenges while Allan McGregor, 41 is expected to hang up his gloves.

Three players have come the other way in the shape of Kieran Dowell, Dujon Sterling and Jack Butland. All three players have penned pre-contracts from Norwich City, Chelsea and Crystal Palace and will officially join on July 1. Beale is expected to add further players to his ranks in the coming weeks with a new No9 a key position needing addressed.

But Football London report Trusty - who spent last season on loan at English Championship side Birmingham City - will be one of three players sold in the summer window.

They are ready to do a deal to move him on alongside Folarin Balgoun and Nicolas Pepe, who both enjoyed successful loan spells in France this season.

Trusty was named the Supporters' Player of the Season after impressing for the St Andrew's outfit. He featured 48 times in all competitions and netted four goals.

Speaking previously and delivering the inside track on the stopper, former Rangers and Hearts defender Danny Wilson said: “He’s a modern day centre-back in terms of athletic ability and stature. He’s 6’3, he’s left footed, he’s like the wind – he’s rapid.

"He's a very good one v one defender and comfortable on the ball. Auston's good in the air for his size, of course.

“There seem to be more centre-backs in the game now who are expected to also defend wide areas and one v one, teams who want to play in a pressing way and keep teams far up the pitch.

“But Auston’s got the pace that allows him to defend anything behind and be a really aggressive, front foot type of defender.

“The way I’ve seen Rangers try to play, particularly in the Celtic games where they’ve tried to suffocate them and not allow them out, makes me think someone of Auston Trusty’s profile fits the bill.

“I’ve got no doubt Auston would do well, ability and with the physicality side of things. I’ve seen him at close quarters, training and games, and he’s always impressed me."
