The Rangers Supporters Association has slammed fans who took part in vile chants involving Celtic legend Tommy Burns during Friday night’s victory over Ross County in Dingwall. Sky Sports microphones picked up singing from a section of the travelling support in the Highlands who sang about the former Parkhead player and boss who passed away in 2008 following a battle with cancer.
Many fans have condemned the singing on social media and now the official organisation for supporters clubs has released a statement. They said on Twitter: “The RSA on behalf of our member clubs strongly condemns the chant involving Tommy Burns at last night’s game. We believe there is no place for this in our support.”
The Rangers Supporters Association was founded in 1946 in Glasgow and is the oldest and largest independent Rangers Supporters Group worldwide. Burns spent almost two decades as a player at Celtic and managed the club for three years in the 1990s. Rangers legends Walter Smith and Ally McCoist were pallbearers at his funeral in 2008 after the trio worked together with the Scotland national team.
