Rangers enter SPFL talks over fixture reshuffle but it's NOT the Celtic game that will be moved

The SPFL have kicked off moves to bring forward Rangers’ clash against Motherwell next Sunday in a bid to help the Ibrox club’s Europa League bid.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst revealed Light Blues chiefs had requested help from the league body in their preparations for their last four clash against RB Leipzig.

Van Bronckhorst was asked about the prospect of rearranging fixtures and Record Sport can reveal that Rangers have targeted next Sunday’s trip to Fir Park - rather than the final Old Firm derby which is sandwiched between both legs against the Germans - as they look for help from Hampden chiefs.

The Light Blues head to Lanarkshire for a lunchtime kick off on April 24 before heading to Germany on the Thursday.

But they have a free week leading up to the Steelmen clash and the SPFL are now in discussions with Sky Sports - due to screen the game live - as well as the police and Motherwell.

An SPFL spokesman said: “The SPFL has received a request from Rangers to move forward their game with Motherwell on Sunday to assist with their preparations for the Leipzig game.

“The SPFL is in discussions with Motherwell, Sky Sports and Police Scotland regarding the request."
