Rangers duo Alfredo Morelos & John Lundstram free to face Celtic

Rangers duo Alfredo Morelos & John Lundstram set to miss Celtic clash

RANGERS will NOT be without Alfredo Morelos and John Lundstram for next month's derby clash against Celtic, as things stand.

It comes after both players received straight red cards against Hibs today.

Willie Collum sent off the Gers pair during the second-half of the 2-2 draw at Easter Road.

Firstly, Lundstram was given his marching orders for halting a Hibs counter attack with a cynical tackle on Martin Boyle.

Secondly, Morelos - who was a substitute in the match - was shown a red for a flailing arm which appeared to catch Marijan Čabraja on his face.

The rules regarding suspensions on the Scottish FA website state that serious foul play and violent conduct incidents constitute a two-game ban.

While it cannot be fully confirmed until the referees report is received by the SFA, the incidents regarding both players in this instance clearly come under either category respectively.

These suspensions stand no matter the competition.

The rule under Section F regarding suspensions for serious foul play and violent conduct states: "A Recognised First Team Player sent off in a First Team match (other than in a Specified Cup Competition) will be suspended for his club’s next two First Team matches, irrespective of the competition and including Specified Cup Competitions, as applicable."

Therefore, as things currently stand, both players are due to miss Rangers' next two matches against Ross County in the Premiership and Queen of the South in the Premier Sports Cup.

The next domestic match for Rangers after these matches is Celtic away on Saturday, September 3.

It remains to be seen whether either decision will be overturned in the coming days.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst has already confirmed the club will appeal Lundstram's red.
