Rangers’ deGrom Pulled From No-Hitter Due to Injury

Jacob deGrom’s sensational showing against the Royals ended abruptly Monday after the Rangers ace was pulled from the game due to injury.

After not allowing any hits through four innings, deGrom exited Texas’s road matchup against Kansas City “as a precaution with right wrist soreness,” the Rangers announced. The 34-year-old right-hander was replaced by reliever Dane Dunning in the midst of what was shaping up to be his best game of the young season.

Taking the mound for his first road start of the season, deGrom appeared to be in the zone against the Royals, allowing no runs and no hits with one walk and five strikeouts on 58 pitches. The Rangers led the Royals, 4–0, at the time of deGrom’s exit.

Given deGrom’s noted injury history, the two-time Cy Young winner’s status will certainly be worth monitoring in the coming days. In the meantime, the Rangers (9–6) will have to press on without their star pitcher in order to notch another win and maintain their first-place standing in the AL West.

On the season, deGrom (1–0) now has a 3.48 ERA with 32 strikeouts and three walks in 20.2 innings.
