Rangers daft youngster 'over the moon' as parents surprise him with Seville trip after passport delay

A 'Rangers daft' youngster has gone viral for his jubilant celebration when his parents surprised him with a renewed passport to go to Seville.

Little Robbie Young, nine, thought he would be staying at home while his dad, uncle and cousin travelled abroad for the UEFA Europa League final on Wednesday.

But mum Kelly, 43, made it her mission to make sure he had his passport in time to watch Rangers play Eintracht Frankfurt at a fan zone in the city after she sent it for renewal last month.

Following gruellingly long phone calls and several emails, Kelly had almost given up hope until an employee offered to send Robbie's passport to Glasgow so it would be ready on Saturday.

Kelly and dad Robert, 43, from Glasgow, surprised Drumchapel United player Robbie yesterday with a new football top and his passport.

His outstanding reaction to the news has blown up on Twitter with over 1,000 people liking the post.

Home carer and dance teacher Kelly told the Record: "He is only nine but he is absolutely Rangers daft.

"His dad, uncle and cousin all booked up to go to Seville when Rangers got into the final. I realised I had sent his passport for renewal so I didn't tell him in case it didn't come.

"He asked if he was going but I said 'no, you're too young to go'.

"I was on the phone for eight days straight and I emailed every office and sent proof of his flights.

"One day I was on the phone on and off between 8.30am to 12.30pm, then from 1pm to 4pm. It was a nightmare.

"I had about given up hope but I sent another email to the urgent office and I got a call back. They had lost my son's older passport so that is why there was a delay.

"The lady was very helpful and she said she could have Robbie's passport sent to Glasgow for 11am on Saturday."

Kelly had initially sent Robbie's passport for renewal on April 18 for the family's holiday to Florida in October.

But when Rangers got through to the final of the Europa League and her husband booked flights without realising Robbie didn't have a passport, she flagged his case as urgent.

Sadly the family have been unable to secure tickets with some selling for £2,500 as Kelly slammed the "disgusting" prices and called for stricter measures to make sure fans weren't taken advantage of.

The group will start the journey on Monday by getting a bus from Buchanan Street to Leeds Airport.

They will then fly to Alicante and hire a camper van to drive the last leg of the trip.

Robbie is "over the moon" and can't sleep because he is so excited.

Kelly added: "He is ecstatic. They don't have tickets but he is over the moon to just be watching it at the fan zone.

"It will be an experience he will remember for the rest of his life."
