Kris Boyd has revisited Danny Rohl’s conduct during his time at Rangers, suggesting the former Ibrox boss overstepped when he publicly criticised Celtic manager Martin O’Neill.

O’Neill, in his second spell in charge, guided Celtic to a domestic double despite sustained pressure in the title race.

In contrast, Rohl came under scrutiny after Rangers lost four consecutive post-split fixtures, during which he questioned some of O’Neill’s tactical decisions.

Rohl has since departed Rangers to take up a role with Red Bull Salzburg, bringing an end to his time in Glasgow.

Reflecting on that period, Boyd said on the Warm-Up: “When you look at Danny Rohl as well, there came a stage in the season where you felt as if he was ready to take on the world.

“Although sometimes you were like ‘mate, calm down.’ Remember when he had a go at Martin O’Neill. Told him how to play his team.

“You are like ‘there is no need to get involved in a war of words with someone who is as experienced as Martin.’ Then something changed inside.”
