Rangers claim Celtic fans vandalised Ibrox to stop supporters from getting inside ground

Celtic fans have been accused of vandalising Ibrox's turnstile gates to prevent Rangers supporters from gaining access to the stadium ahead of Sunday's derby.

The Glasgow giants will square off in Govan in what could determine the outcome of the Scottish Premiership title race. But the highly-anticipated clash has been marred by an alleged incident that took place in the early hours of Sunday morning.

It's been claimed that Celtic supporters used glue and expanding foam on the gates at Ibrox to stop Rangers fans from getting into the ground. Police Scotland were called to the scene at 2.45am as three men were arrested and charged in connection with the vandalisation of the stadium. Enquiries are still ongoing.

A Rangers spokesperson told the Scottish Sun: "It's been an attempt from Celtic fans to prevent Rangers fans from getting into the ground."

A Police Scotland spokesperson added: "Police responded around 2.45am on Sunday, 3 April, 2022 following vandalism at Ibrox Stadium, Govan. Officers attended and three men aged 18, 22 and 25 have been arrested and charged in connection with the incident. Enquiries remain ongoing."

Sky Sports also claimed the incident took place at the Broomloan Road end of the ground and "expanding foam was sprayed around the entrances to the turnstiles."

A Rangers fan page also posted about the incident this morning with an image of the alleged attempts on the Ibrox gates. It said: "Ibrox Stadium has been vandalised through the night by a group of 'Glasgow Derby' fans.

"The group have used expanding foam and glue on the gates/shutters around the ground. Total damage at this stage is unclear."

Celtic have been contacted for comment about the alleged incident.

Ange Postecoglou's men are three points clear of their city rivals heading into the fixture and have a golden opportunity to extend their lead at the top of the table as clubs enter the business end of the season. Rangers will be without their star man Alfredo Morelos, who picked up an injury on international duty with Colombia, as they look to close the gap on Celtic.

The Light Blues will be looking to avenge their 3-0 defeat at Parkhead the last time these two sides met as Rio Hatate's brace secured an emphatic derby day victory.
