Rangers charge eyewatering £71 for one-off Napoli ticket as Gio claim comes back to bite

One brief for Rangers’ first home Champions League fixture in 12 years have been priced up to £71 for non-season ticket holders. The briefs for Wednesday’s Group A showdown with Napoli went on sale to supporters in the MyGers membership scheme who are eligible to purchase any remaining tickets.

The Ibrox club sold three-match packages to season book holders before selling single match tickets to members. And some supporters have hit out at the pricing for the match against the Serie A leaders which comes after the 4-0 thumping by Ajax in their opening game in Amsterdam.

The match will be the first at Ibrox in the Champions League group stage since the Light Blues played Manchester United in November 2010. Top end three-match packages for season ticket holders cost £180 but the £71 for a single match ticket has prompted an angry reaction from some fans on social media.

Coming after Giovanni van Bronckhorst said Rangers didn’t have the finances to compete with Europe’s elite clubs following the heavy defeat in the Johan Cruyff Arena, one fan wrote: “ Rangers charging MyGers members £71 for a game against Napoli is appalling. Glad I’m a season ticket holder.”

Another said: “£71 for a Napoli ticket in the Main Stand is scandalous” and another added: “£71 for a ticket against Napoli, a team we’ve been told we can’t compete with is a shambles.”

What do you make of the price? Is this the most expensive baseline ticket price in the history of Scottish football?
