Rangers will meet Napoli at Ibrox on Wednesday after UEFA gave the green light to postpone Champions League Group A clash. All domestic football in Britain has been postponed following the death of the Queen and there was some uncertainty over European ties.
There were fears over a lack of Police Scotland resources with the Queen lying in state in Edinburgh and up to 200,000 mourners expected. European football's governing body were keen for the game to go ahead with a congested calendar due to the winter World Cup in Qatar which has already resulted in a condensed competition.
Rangers and Napoli chiefs have been in discussions with UEFA over a solution and the Ibrox club said in a statement: "Rangers can today confirm the upcoming UEFA Champions League match with SSC Napoli at Ibrox has been rescheduled for Wednesday, 14 September at 8pm. This is due to the severe limitations on policing resources and organisational challenges related to the ongoing events surrounding the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
"Rangers, of course, recognise this switch in date will inconvenience a number of our loyal supporters, and refunds will be available to those unable to attend the match. Additionally, no away supporters will be present at the match, allowing the club to make additional tickets available to MyGers members as a priority."
A UEFA statement read: "UEFA today announced that the UEFA Champions League tie between Rangers FC and SSC Napoli, originally to be played on Tuesday 13 September, has been rescheduled for Wednesday 14 September at 21.00CET. This is due to the severe limitations on police resources and organisational issues related to the ongoing events surrounding the national mourning for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
