Rangers boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst coy on Steven Davis future

Giovanni van Bronckhorst played his cards close to his chest when quizzed on the future of Steven Davis.

Northern Ireland captain Davis - who comes out of contract this summer - started Saturday's Scottish Cup final against Hearts which Rangers won 2-0 in extra-time.

Speculation continues to mount whether the Hampden Park showpiece could be the 37-year-old's last appearance for the club.

Veteran goalkeeper Allan McGregor and defender Leon Balogun are also out of contract at the end of this season.

Asked if the trio could still be at Ibrox next season, Van Bronckhorst said: "It depends.

"Of course, they are out of contract which is a luxury for players but I think they also want stability and once they make their minds up where their future will lie, we will tell but I’m really happy with the players.

"But we will just enjoy this time together and have a big party tonight and go on holiday tomorrow."

Goalkeeper McGregor came on for a very late cameo at the end of extra-time, suggesting it would be his final appearance for Rangers.

But the 40-year-old is refusing to rule out staying at Ibrox.

He told Premier Sports: "Nobody said that (it was my last game for Rangers). I'm sure I'll have a Rangers jersey on at some point in the future.

"I've not thought about it (the future). The last few months have been hectic since the last international break. There's been games every midweek. I've maybe only had one week off.

"All I was focusing on was the next game. So this is the last game.

"I'll speak to the club soon enough and we'll take it from there.

"I'll have a holiday and have a pre-season and we'll see how it goes"

He added: "We'll see. I can speak to the club easily and they can speak to me easily. But it's not a big problem so it's not something we need to discuss.

"It's just a general chat rather than anything else just to see what the scoop is."

Van Bronckhorst says the Scottish Cup win will inject plenty of momentum into Rangers heading into next season.

The Dutchman added: "It (cup win) gives a lot of energy. Next season is new, we can start all over again, I can start from day one.

"We just have to keep on working and, of course, we will see in the transfer window what happens but I think we’ll see some changes."
