Rangers join Aberdeen, Celtic and Kilmarnock in the Premier Sports Cup quarter-final with a 1-0 win over Championship side Dundee.
The Light Blues rotated slightly but it was still a strong XI fielded by manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst. They dominated play and an unlikely goalscorer in 37-year-old Steven Davis popped in the early stages of the game to give them one-goal lead at half-time, but their visitors from Tayside were still in the game by virtue of it only being a slender margin.
It remained that way all the way to the end and there was even nervousness around the ground as Dundee threatened to score. Tav surprise?
There were questions marks over the captain's fitness ahead of this one but despite those, Van Bronckhorst selected.
Coming up against lower league opposition seemed like the perfect chance to hand his leader on the pitch a break and a chance to understudy Adam Devine, but it wasn't to be. Another 90 minutes are instead put into the engine for the ever-present right-back.
Return of the Roofe
Their Jamaican international hasn't kicked a ball in anger this season but finally got back on the park in this fixture.
There was an obvious rustiness but there were a few occasions he was in the right place for a goal, so the instincts haven't been lost.
Autumn of discontent
It's not all going Rangers' way right now. It's win after win on the domestic front but performances are failing to impress the fans amid a tough Champions League campaign.
Van Bronckhorst was told in no uncertain terms by those still inside the ground what they thought of this one and he'll know standards on the park need to go up.
