Hamilton Accies’ SPFL Trust Trophy clash with Rangers B later this month is set to be postponed until November, with the Ibrox side ready to request a fixture change due to international call-ups.
The clubs are due to meet at Dumbarton Stadium on Saturday, September 24, which falls on the international weekend when Scotland’s ‘A’ team play in the UEFA Nations League and the under-19s play in the Slovenia Cup.
For a fixture postponement request to be made on grounds of player unavailability, three or more must have been called up for their country.
And from Scottish nationals alone, Rangers B have Jack Harkness, Mackenzie Strachan and Robbie Ure in Billy Stark’s upcoming U19 squad.
B team/first team fringe players Alex Lowry and Leon King have been called up to recent squads/camps with Scotland under-21, alongside Lewis Mayo, although Lowry is currently out injured after a horror tackle from Dumbarton's Ally Love in the previous round of the SPFL Trust Trophy.
The fourth round of the SPFL Trust Trophy does not take place until December 10/11, so it gives clubs a relatively large window to rearrange the fixture.
It is believed, however, the fixture won’t be able to be slotted in until a midweek in late November due to Rangers’ participation in the UEFA Youth League.
The Gers are already playing catch-up in the Lowland League after Saturday’s Old Firm B team meeting with Celtic was postponed at short notice.
Hamilton are entering the Trust Trophy at this stage, while Rangers B beat League Two Dumbarton 7-0 in round two and Lowland League Spartans 1-0 in round one.
