East Kilbride boss Kevin Rutkiewicz was happy to take a point off of Lowland League leaders Rangers B but warned they must follow that up with a win this weekend for it to count for something.
Kilby travelled to the Dumbarton Stadium on Tuesday night knowing they would need a big performance to avoid a repeat of their 4-3 defeat at K-Park when the sides last met in July.
And EK had goalkeeper Curtis Lyle to thank for ensuring a share of the spoils after he saved Arron Lyall's penalty in the 71st minute.
Results elsewhere mean EK have dropped to fifth in a tight table, level on points with third-place Celtic B and fourth-place Stirling Uni. Tranent have moved up to second spot, sitting two points clear of EK, with Rangers six points clear of EK at the summit with a game in hand.
But Rutkiewicz was pleased to take a point as he aims to back that up with a home win over Caledonian Braves on Saturday.
He said: "Curtis has saved the penalty so it is a big moment. It was a debatable penalty to begin with but I thought both goalkeepers kept both teams in it.
"I felt it was a very good 0-0. It was entertaining, with a lot of chances.
"Rangers had scored against every opponent in the league this season so we will take 0-0 and a very good performance against a very strong side.
"I think anyone going away through to Dumbarton to play Rangers and coming home with a point will see that as a good point.
"They are a very strong side, they've invested heavily, they are top of the league. The table doesn't lie. We are not three or four games in now, we are 18 so Rangers are where they are because they deserve it.
"It was a tough game for us but the positives for us are we have kept a clean sheet and created numerous chances, even late on when we could have won the game.
"We looked strong and fit at the end of it as well.
"This point is only a really good one if we do the business on Saturday."
Caledonian Braves drew 2-2 last time they met Kilby in the league in October, however EK were 5-0 victors in the Scottish Cup a few weeks later.
With the league so tight, EK can't afford to slip up but Tranent face a massive game with Stirling Uni which could swing the pendulum once again.
Rutkieiwcz added: "We've got to take care of our own business and not worry about other teams.
"We are on a good run but we've got to continue that because we have a massive period coming up."
