Rangers arrogance over Celtic allocation will come back to bite and Hoops should say Broomloan or nothing - Hotline

Celtic and Rangers are in European action but there’s still plenty to squabble about on the home front.

Ibrox managing director Stewart Robertson stating the clubs will allow 800 away fans in to Old Firm games has sparked another fight in the ongoing ticket wars – with the Hoops hitting back and insisting no decision has been made.

Arrin Geddes, Irvine, said: “John Hartson was 100 percent right, the Rangers board and fans could no longer stomach watching 7000 Celtic fans consistently celebrating at Ibrox so spat the dummy.”

Bill Lockerbie, Northampton, said: “I'm disappointed my team hasn't risen above the issue by maintaining the status quo and honouring years of tradition. After the 3-0 drubbing, the only downside was that there were no opposition supporters inside to suffer the humiliation. I suppose that could be Stewart Robertson’s real reason.”

Dean Riley, Cathkin, said: "I’m loving the way Celtic have called out Stewart Robertson. What arrogance for him and Rangers to think they can just click their fingers and Celtic will come running. Stick your 800 tickets mate. Broomloan or nothing and we’ll see whose stadium is more intimidating."

Lance Little, Erskine, said: “Like many Celtic fans I am disappointed that the club didn't tell Rangers where to shove their request to have 800 or so fans back unto the Glasgow derby matches.

“It was them who changed things so they didn't see our fans celebrating.

“Our most recent game was a fantastic occasion with a great atmosphere.

“We don't need nor want their fans back.”

Paul McArdle, Gourock, said: “Since when did Stewart Robertson start speaking for Celtic? Celtic will decide if your fans get back in our ground not you. Laughable he started this nonsense in the first place but it backfired in the last game when his side got spanked.”

But Scott Gowers, Edinburgh, said: “It is great news that away fans will be returning for Old Firm games.

“There has been debate about who was at fault but Celtic’s covid red zones continued it by still refusing Rangers fans which is not in compliance with the rules. Why have Celtic not faced sanctions for breaching the rules?”

Meanwhile, George Wilson, West Sussex, said: “Rangers obsessed expert Gordon Ashley has got his facts wrong again.

“He says Rangers have only won one trophy in 10 years. Coming up through the divisions they have in fact won 4 league titles and one Challenge Cup. Rangers winning the smaller trophies outside the top division had just as much value as Celtic romping the title by 20 or 30 points every year and winning cups when they had no opposition.”

Europe isn’t much cop either for some.

Gary Stevenson, Newtonhill, said: “I wonder what the Lisbon Lions think about Celtic's participation in the Europa Conference League.

“Celtic have been trying to sell tickets for their match with Bodo Glint as if it's a massive game.

“Teams are embarrassed to be in this competition but maybe it's a chance to turn on your disco lights.”

Looking ahead, David Bryce, Troon, said: “Ange Postecoglou appears to be quite ruthless and come the summer I am sure he will be telling Mikey Johnston, James Forrest, James McCarthy and Christopher Jullien to find new clubs.

“They are simply not at the level required to play for the club and he will look for a higher level of player.”

Finally James McPake became the latest SPFL gaffer to get his books, with Mark McGhee coming in to replace him.

Joe Graham, Garrowhill, said: “McPake was almost eight years with Dundee FC as player, academy coach, caretaker boss, and eventually taking over as full time coach/ manager. He got them promotion and in to the quarter-finals of the Scottish Cup. Struggling a bit at the bottom of the table, but still a long way to go, he gets the sack. What a way to treat a successful coach."

Kevin Lord, Drylaw, said: "Why do self proclaimed 'big clubs' in Scotland continue filling the pockets of 'loser' managers on the gravy train the Scottish Premiership is?"
