Rangers appeal John Lundstram's red card vs Hibs as they make 'wrongful dismissal' claim to SFA

Rangers have lodged an appeal against John Lundstram's red card in the draw with Hibs at Easter Road.

The Light Blues midfielder was handing his marching orders for a challenge on Martin Boyle with whistler Willie Collum deeming the tackle as a red card offence. The dismissal was the first of two on the day with Alfredo Morelos also sent packing in the capital.

Rangers were leading as they look to see out the match but Josh Campbell netted deep into added-time to grab a share of the spoils for Lee Johnson's men. James Tavernier had handed the visitors the advantage from the penalty spot following a tug from Rocky Bushiri on Antonio Colak. Boyle levelled early in the second period before Tom Lawrence headed home a Borna Barisic corner before Campbell's last gasp strike.

We told earlier today how Giovanni van Bronckhorst planned to analyse the game and see what the 'smartest thing to do' would be in regards to the red cards.

And now the club have officially appealed against Lundstram's dismissal.

The SFA disciplinary website states that the decision was for offence: 'A1 - serious foul play'. With Rangers' claim for 'Wrongful dismissal'.

A fast tracking hearing date is yet to be confirmed.

Speaking after the game, the Dutchman said: “It was a very physical game. In the first half we had to avoid some really tough challenges. In the second half, with the red card for John it was a foul but he had no intention of hurting the player.

“The speed of the tackle wasn’t with a lot of force. The ref could have given yellow as well if you compare it with the challenge we conceded in the first half. Then we had to react with 10 men but the red card for Morelos made it worse and we had to play with nine. The players fought hard to get the best result possible. We’re going to analyse the game and see what’s the smartest thing to do but we will sure look into the red cards.”
