Rangers and Celtic referees for Premiership openers revealed by SFA

The Scottish FA have announced the officials for matchday one of the Premiership season.

It all gets back underway this weekend and Rangers get the ball rolling with a lunchtime kick-off away at Livingston. Celtic round off the weekend with the start of their title defence at home on title day against Aberdeen. A season of change is upon Scottish football with VAR (video assistant referee) coming into play after November's World Cup break. Until then and no doubt after, officials will be subject to intense scrutiny, particularly in matches involving Glasgow's big two.

Don Robertson is the whistler in Livingston and he's had a busy start to the season, with four games across Scotland and Europe plus three red cards already this summer. He will have David Roome and Jonathan Bell to call upon as his assistant referees with Colin Steven working on fourth official duties at the Tony Macaroni Arena.

Nick Walsh is tasked with looking after the battle between the Hoops and Dons, he too has already taken charge of Premier Sports Cup group stage matches.

His assistants on the day at Parkhead are scheduled to be Frank Connor and Craig Ferguson with Barry Cook named as the fourth official.

The Light Blues are looking to claim Premiership glory this season after their rivals took their crown in May, but Celtic will be desperate to cling onto it.
