Rangers ace Stephen Kelly told time is up as he makes defiant 'won't be downing tools' statement

Stephen Kelly admits he will give his all while still at Rangers after accepting his time at the club is coming to an end.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst has told the midfielder he is free to leave the Ibrox with his contract in the final 12 months. The summer transfer window has a week to go as clubs up and down the country finalise plans to get their squads in place for the months ahead.

Kelly was on loan at Salford City in the English Football League last season and he admits that it was during this time he knew the conversation over his future at Rangers was going to come. The 22-year-old admits it was tough to hear that his time at Ibrox was coming to an end after so many years - but says as long as he is at the club, he will give everything for the jersey.

Speaking to the Scottish Sun, he said: “I met with the manager, Ross and my agent, and they felt I had done well on loan, but didn’t feel I’d get regular game time here.

“The gaffer thought it was best for my development to go on loan and keep playing, or if an offer comes in before the window closes to look at that as well.

“It was tough to hear that it was coming to an end after so many years.

“Once the dust settles, though, you think about the future and everyone wants to play football.

“When I was at Salford I spoke to Rangers about how I was doing and they said it was going well.

“But I felt when I went there this conversation was probably going to happen.

“I have a contract and I’ll work hard every day I’m here to try to catch the manager’s eye. I won’t be downing tools because it’s coming to an end.

“As long as I’m at Rangers, I’ll do as well as I possibly can.”
