Rangers 3 Kilmarnock 1 as Ayrshire side suffer another deflating defeat away from home

It was yet another disappointing loss on the road for Kilmarnock as Rangers showed their class.

The Ibrox side were a cut above in a comfortable 3-1 win in which they were rarely troubled by the Ayrshire side who have yet to win away from home in the Scottish Premiership this season.

Connor Goldson, Fashion Sakala and captain James Tavernier had the Gers cruising at half-time before Jeriel Dorsett headed home nothing more than a second half consolation for the visitors.

It took the hosts just six minutes to take the lead thanks to Goldson who latched on to a rebound from Antonio Colak after Todd Cantwell had two bites at the cherry which were blocked.

Sakala had a great chance in the 15th minute when he burst into the box and fired a shot towards goal, but Sam Walker got down well to keep the effort out.

But 10 minutes later he found himself on the scoresheet as Colak was the provider again with poor defending from Killie which allowed Sakala to stroke an effort home.

Willie Collum was instructed to have a look at the VAR monitor by David Munro for an alleged handball by Ryan Alebiosu, and the whistler agreed with the claims and pointed to the spot.

Tavernier calmly smashed it past Walker who dived the correct way but had no chance of stopping the powerful spot-kick.

Just after the break Killie felt they should have a penalty when Allan McGregor tripped Rory McKenzie, but Collum was having none of it as he waved away the claims.

Killie fans finally had something to let out a small cheer about when Dorsett headed home on the hour mark, Rangers were screaming for a foul but Collum ruled the goal to stand.

Just after the goal Killie attacked again and Dan Armstrong whipped a teasing cross in, but Christian Doidge couldn’t reach the ball.

Colak had an effort of his own in the 73rd minute from long range, but Walker was equal to the shot and saved comfortably.

And in the 82nd minute a cross reached the head of Colak who looked to steer a header into the net, but he fired it straight at Walker who got a knee to the chance.

Rangers had the ball in the net for a fourth time in the 89th minute, but Ryan Jack was offside when he received the ball which he fired home.
