A late Thelo Aasgaard penalty clinched Rangers a 2-1 friendly win over St Etienne in Derek McInnes’ first home game as boss.
New signings Ivor Pandur, Ross McCrorie, Ben Godfrey, Dan Neil and Lawrence Shankland all started in the first pre-season friendly at Ibrox of this summer, with another recruit Cammy Devlin on the bench, albeit he came on for the second half.
After midfielder Mohamed Diomande was hauled down inside the box in the fourth minute, Shankland slotted in the penalty, his first goal in a blue jersey since signing from Hearts.
Fellow striker Youssef Chermiti bounced a shot up and off the crossbar and over after 11 minutes but the Ligue 2 side, managed by another former Hearts boss, Ian Cathro, levelled in the 38th minute when Thierno Ballo got past left-back Tuur Rommens all to easily and squared for Jakob Breum, who had missed a great early chance, to knock in from close range.
However, in the 82nd minute St Etienne keeper Gautier Larsonneur upended Bojan Miovski inside the box and fellow Rangers substitute Aasgaard fired in from the spot despite the stopper getting a touch on the ball.
Rangers host West Ham on Sunday before they begin their William Hill Premiership campaign away to Dundee United a week on Friday.
