Rangers 2 Hearts 0 (AET) - Ryan Jack and Scott Wright secure Scottish Cup triumph at Hampden

Ryan Jack and Scott Wright were the Rangers heroes as they bounced back from their Seville heartbreak to win the Scottish Cup.

The Light Blues ran out 2-0 winners after extra-time, just days after losing out to Frankfurt on penalties in the Europa League final.

It was a horrible way to taste defeat on Wednesday night but they made sure they ended the season on a high by winning domestic silverware at Hampden.

Jack's piledriver from outside the box three minutes into the additional 30 sent the Rangers fans wild before Wright added a second minutes later to cement the victory.

The game kicked into life after just three minutes when Peter Haring was in the book after for a late lunge on Calvin Bassey.

Seven minutes later the first real chance of the game arrived, and it was for Hearts.

Ellis Simms found Nathaniel Atkinson with his headed knock down on the right side, he played Boyce in down the right, and his ball across goal found his strike partner at the back post, but he could only knock his sliding effort off the woodwork.

Four minutes on and Rangers had a great chance to open the scoring.

A stunning cross field pass from Connor Goldson found Amad Diallo. He took a brilliant first touch before rolling the ball across goal but John Souttar - in action for Hearts for the final time before joining Rangers - was on hand to clear the danger.

That early Simms scare knocked some life into Rangers who upped the ante at Hampden.

First Scott Arfield was denied by a stunning block before the Hearts defence snuffed out Joe Aribo, as he looked to turn and get an effort off at Craig Gordon.

The Ibrox midfielder had another half-chance midway through the first period but his tame effort was easily gathered by Gordon.

Moments later Ryan Kent fired wide as Van Bronckhorst's men pushed for the opener at the national stadium.

Barrie McKay was next to try his luck but his effort sailed high and wide of Jon McLaughlin's goal.

Ten minutes before the break Aribo had a huge chance to grab the opener.

Kent teed up Bassey down the left side and his cross was met by his international team-mate at the front post, but he couldn't make any real proper contact to trouble Gordon.

Diallo was next to fluff a big chance as Bassey once again delivered a brilliant ball into the box but the on-loan Manchester United attacker headed over after excellent work to lose his marker.

It was a bright start to the second half for Rangers, forcing two corners in the opening two minutes but the Hearts defence stood tall to clear the danger.

Kent had a decent chance on 57 minutes after a perfectly timed run to get on the end of Diallo's ball over the top but Gordon was quick off his line to deny the winger.

Bassey then forced Gordon into a decent low save with just 15 minutes to play with a low curling effort after a driving run past a number of Hearts players on the edge of the area.

Leon Balogun then went close with seven minutes to play as he got up highest to meet a Tavernier corner, but his header went inches over the bar.

With 90 minutes on the clock Gordon produced an outstanding reaction save with his foot to deny Aribo.

Sub Wright then clipped the bar with a header from Tavernier's free kick in the second minute of injury time.

Into extra time and again Rangers again missed a huge chance with just one minute on the clock.

Bassey once again delivered a stunning ball into the box but Aribo sent his diving header over the bar.

However, just moments later supersub Jack scored a stunner.

Tavernier's corner dropped to the midfielder on the edge of the box and he powered his effort beyond Gordon to send the Rangers fans wild at Hampden.

Four minutes later Wright added a second as he drilled a low effort beyond the Hearts number one.

As the Jambos pushed for a way back into the contest, space started to open up and Fashion Sakala had the chance to put the icing on the cake with 110 minutes on the clock, but Gordon got down low to save well.

An emotional Allan McGregor was subbed on for a Rangers swansong with a minute left as he received huge cheers from the Ibrox faithful.
