Rams will roll over $405K in cap space, least of any NFL team

The Los Angeles Rams are currently projected to be over the salary cap in 2023 and they’ll need to get under the limit before the new league year starts in March. They have some time to clear up some space but not much relief will come from carryover money.

According to Field Yates of ESPN, the Rams will carry over just $405,812 from the 2022 season into the 2023 offseason. That’s the lowest amount of any team in the NFL.

For comparison, the Browns will carry over $27.6 million in 2023, which is the most in the league and almost $17 million more than any other team. The Rams are one of just three teams that will carry over less than $1 million.

As Yates notes in his tweet, the NFL will still audit incentives and bonuses for each team after the playoffs end, which will be added or subtracted from the current rollover money. So it’s possible the Rams will carry over more than the $405,812 they’re currently set to bring into 2023.

The Rams spent most of the 2022 season right up against the cap, having very little space to operate with.

There are some big decisions looming in Los Angeles beyond just the one Sean McVay is making. The Rams will need to trim some contracts, either by restructuring, trading or cutting players this offseason.
