Rams will push to complete Aaron Donald’s contract after extending Matthew Stafford

After extending Matthew Stafford through the 2026 season, the Los Angeles Rams may not be done handing out new contracts. According to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, the Rams are now going to push to complete Aaron Donald’s deal.

Fowler notes that progress has been made on that front, which will hopefully mean Donald is back in the mix for not only 2022, but several years to come. He considered retiring this offseason after winning Super Bowl LVI, but with a contract extension on the horizon, Donald is on track to return for another championship run next season.

Currently, Donald is making $22.5 million per year. He has three years left on his contract and is signed through 2024. The Rams may not end up tacking additional years on his contract, given Donald’s flirtation with retirement, but he has certainly earned a raise.

The three-time Defensive Player of the Year is the backbone of the Rams defense and without him, they don’t win the Super Bowl last season.
