Rams uncertain if Matt Stafford will return this season

After the Seahawks face Derek Carr and the Raiders today, the next team on the schedule is the division rival Rams. LA is going through an all-time Super Bowl hangover that may about to get even worse.

According to a report by Adam Schefter at ESPN, the 3-7 Rams aren’t sure if veteran quarterback Matt Stafford will play again this season.

Stafford is dealing with a neck strain and has also suffered two concussions in recent weeks. Now 34 years old, few QBs around the league have taken more punishment over the last decade – his offensive lines with the Lions tended to be on the poor side in pass protection.

If Stafford can’t go, the Rams will look to Bryce Perkins to start again in his place.

The Rams are also missing superstar wide receiver Cooper Kupp, who’s out 6-8 weeks with an ankle injury, so Seattle should probably be considered the favorite for next week’s matchup.

If Stafford is indeed out for the year it will be doubly fortunate for the Seahawks, who will face LA again at home in Week 18.

Update:

According to a somewhat-conflicting report by Ian Rapoport at NFL.com, Stafford’s symptoms are improving and the Rams have no plans to shut him down right now.
