After staying put at No. 36 and taking Steve Avila, the Rams decided to trade down from their second draft slot. They struck a deal with the Texans, sending Houston the 69th overall pick and No. 191 in exchange for the 73rd selection and No. 161
It’s no surprise that Les Snead was looking to move back in the draft, especially with the gap between the 77th overall pick and No. 167 in the fifth round. Perhaps they were eyeing Tennessee quarterback Hendon Hooker, who went one spot ahead of the Rams at No. 68 overall. That may have caused Snead to bail out of that spot.
So with this deal, the Rams move up 30 spots from No. 191 to 161 and only slide back four spots in the third round.
