Rams RT Rob Havenstein expected to play vs. Cardinals on Sunday

Good news has been hard to come by for the injury-ravaged Los Angeles Rams, but there is a positive development heading into Sunday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals. Sean McVay told reporters Friday that right tackle Rob Havenstein is expected to return after missing the opener with an ankle injury.

Havenstein originally hurt his ankle in the first week of August and though he returned to practice on Sept. 2, he wasn’t ready to go for the first game of the year last week. He’s been the Rams’ most consistent lineman for several years so getting him back against Arizona is huge.

Assuming Havenstein plays as expected, McVay said Warren McClendon Jr. will likely move from right tackle to left tackle. The Rams started Joe Noteboom at left tackle last week and when he went down, A.J. Arcuri replaced him with very little success.

The hope is that McClendon will be an improvement on the left side, providing Matthew Stafford with better blindside protection.

Los Angeles is still far from being at full strength along the offensive line but Havenstein’s return is a major step in the right direction with Steve Avila and Noteboom injured.
