Cooper Kupp gave everyone a scare earlier this week when he left practice early with a hamstring injury. He pulled up on a route in the red zone, causing him to exit with the trainers and eventually undergo an MRI that revealed the severity of the injury.
Adam Schefter of ESPN reported that Kupp is going to miss a few weeks but will be ready for Week 1, which is the main priority. On Thursday, Rams offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur shared his own update on the receiver’s status, and he doesn’t seem concerned at all.
LaFleur said Kupp is considered day-to-day and will be ready to go when it matters – in other words, the start of the season.
“Yeah, I don’t know the total medical stuff with it. He’s day-to-day,” LaFleur said. “He’ll be back in the right time and stuff like that. So he is just going through the rehab process, but he’s day-to-day. He’ll be alright.”
When asked how cautious the Ram will have to be with Kupp once he does return, LaFleur deferred to the training staff. But again, he doesn’t seem worried and expects Kupp back before the start of the season.
“That’s a question for the medical people,” he said. “I try to stay in my lane with that stuff when they tell us, ‘Hey, he’s ready, full go.’ Coop knows his body, he’s a professional. The guys working with him are professionals. They’ll get it right when the time is right.”
With Kupp sidelined, Puka Nacua, Ben Skowronek, Tutu Atwell and Demarcus Robinson should all get more opportunities with the first-team offense. But once Kupp does return, he’ll take back his spot atop the depth chart and command most of the targets in the offense.
