Rams Make Decision on Cooper Kupp for Week 1 Matchup vs. Seahawks

Bidding to put 2022 behind them, the Rams have already suffered a crushing blow to start the season.

Los Angeles will be without wide receiver Cooper Kupp for its season opener against the Seahawks, coach Sean McVay announced Wednesday afternoon.

Kupp, 30, has been nursing a hamstring injury since Aug. 1 and suffered a setback in his recovery toward the end of the month.

Last season, Kupp played in just nine games for the Rams before suffering an ankle injury, although he still managed to rack up 812 yards. Without the services of a key component of its offense, Los Angeles slumped to a 5–12 record, its worst since 2016.

In 2021, Kupp posted one of the most dominant seasons by a wide receiver in NFL history, leading the league in catches, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns. He was named MVP of the Rams’ 23–20 win over the Bengals in Super Bowl LVI.

Los Angeles’s second game of the season, for which Kupp has not yet been ruled out, is scheduled for Sept. 17 against the 49ers.
