Rampur Bypoll Case: SC Issues Notice To ECI And UP Govt On Azam Khan’s Plea, Next Hearing On Wednesday

Supreme Court (File)

New Delhi: After the disqualification of Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan from Rampur assemby seat, the Election Commission announced the reelection for the seat on 5 December and counting of votes on 8 December.

In the meantime Azam Khan approached the Supreme Court and challenged the order of the Election Commission regarding byelection.

Giving some relief to Azam Khan, the Supreme Court on Monday issued notice to Election Commission of India and UP Government on his plea regarding his Rampur assembly seat disqualification. The next hearing in the case is scheduled after two days on Wednesday.

Azam Khan's lawyer P. Chidambaram argued in the court how the Rampur seat was declared vacant by the Election Commission within 24 hours of the  Rampur court verdict.
