The Holy month of Ramadan has begun. An integral part of Ramadan is fasting, known as Sawm, is one of the Five Pillars of Islam. During this sacred month, individuals fast from dawn to sunset, abstaining from food, drink, smoking, among other needs.
The fast is broken at sunset with Iftar, traditionally starting with dates and water, followed by a nutritious meal. The pre-dawn meal, Suhoor, provides energy for the long fasting hours.
