Manchester United interim manager has given insight on Cristiano Ronaldo's mentality ahead of his return to Madrid this evening.
United will face Atletico in the Spanish capital this evening when the two clubs meet for the first time in more than 30 years, going head-to-head in the last 16 of the Champions League.
United would love a victory and strong performance against the current La Liga champions, to give them the upper hand in the two-legged contest.
Atletico come into the tie as favourites among the bookmakers, but like United, have had a difficult campaign in their respective league.
Diego Simeone's side currently lie in fifth place in La Liga, having lost seven matches this term — including four of their last seven games on all fronts. They were also beaten twice by Liverpool in the Champions League this season in the group stages.
The game will also see Ronaldo return to Madrid for the first time since his departure from rivals Real in 2018.
The Portuguese star left Real in 2018, to spend three seasons with Juventus before rejoining United.
And when asked how Rangnick expects Ronaldo to handle the occasion, the German manager gave an insight into the mentality of his star striker.
He told the club's website: "We will see. Again, he’s got enough experience. He’s used to this sort of hostile atmosphere in his career so it shouldn’t impress him a lot.
"Again, for us, it’s about how we perform as a team. He cannot do it on his own.
"We have to perform on a high level as a team, like we did against Leeds, knowing the quality of Atletico is high."
Rangnick announced ahead of leaving Manchester that Edinson Cavani is once again unavailable for the match.
Atleti will be without captain Koke for the game, whilst Matheus Cunha and Daniel Wass also miss out.
Confirmed squad members to face Atletico Madrid: De Gea, Henderson, Heaton, Maguire, Dalot, Varane, Lindelof, Telles, Jones, Bailly, Fred, Mata, Hannibal, Matic, Pogba, Sancho, Ronaldo, Lingard, Elanga, Rashford.
