Ralf Rangnick names change he's seen in Marcel Sabitzer since Manchester United move

Manchester United loanee Marcel Sabitzer has been praised by Austria manager Ralf Rangnick after he scored twice in a convincing victory over Azerbaijan.

The Reds midfielder, who also registered an assist, was on the scoresheet on Friday night as Austria secured a 4-1 victory in their first Euro 2024 qualifying game.

Sabitzer opened the scoring for Rangnick's side after smashing home just before the half-hour mark. He got his second of the game early in the second period with a wonderful, curling free-kick.

The 29-year-old was praised for his performance by Austria teammate Christoph Baumgartner, who admitted he has seen an improvement in Sabitzer's game since the last international break.

"Sabi's performance was outstanding, you can’t say it any other way. He is simply a player with a lot of quality," he told Laola1. "I think the change did him good. He is literally flourishing, is very, very good."

Meanwhile, former United interim boss Rangnick suggested that the midfielder was playing with more confidence than he did while he was at Bayern Munich.

He said: "He has a lot more confidence than when he was at Bayern. Nobody dropped out in this game, but of course you can say that Sabi was the difference player after scoring two goals and preparing one."

Sabitzer has impressed at Old Trafford since joining the club on loan from the Bundesliga giants in January. The Austria international has made nine appearances for Erik ten Hag's side and scored his first goal for the Reds in the FA Cup victory over Fulham last weekend.

The midfielder recently admitted he is not distracted by the uncertainty surrounding his future. While there is no option to make his loan deal permanent, United could potentially negotiate with Bayern Munich at any time about doing so if they wanted.
