Ralf Rangnick confirms Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani are available to face Tottenham

Ralf Rangnick has confirmed Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani are fit and available for Manchester United’s match against Tottenham on Saturday.

Ronaldo missed the heavy defeat to rivals Manchester City last weekend, with Roy Keane among those suggesting there could be more to the situation than just a hip flexor problem.

However, the 37-year-old is set to return to face Spurs at Old Trafford and Cavani is also back in contention, with Rangnick not giving any time to questions on whether Ronaldo was happy with the situation the club.

“Cristiano resumed training yesterday. He trained for the whole session and I expect him to be training today as well,” Rangnick said on Friday.

“He trained well, like the rest of the group, so I would have thought that he’s available for tomorrow.

“It doesn’t make sense to look back on what happened the last six or seven days. What’s important is that he and Edi are both back in training and are both available for the game.

“I haven’t asked him if he’s happy at Manchester at this club. He’s fit again, resumed training yesterday and we shall see which formation we will line up with tomorrow.”

It’s less good news though for Scott McTominay who is expected to miss out against Spurs, with an eye on the Champions League second leg against Atletico Madrid on Tuesday night.

“Scotty is a question mark, he had some problems with his calf so we have to wait and see until after training today,” Rangnick added.

“Right now, it is more likely that he will not be available because if we risk him tomorrow, he will more likely be out for the game on Tuesday.

“That’s why with muscular issues, even more so if it’s the calf muscle, I tend to be careful.”
