Rajasthan reports 215 Covid deaths in 10 days, 22 in last 24 hours

JAIPUR: The state reported 22 Covid-19 deaths on Wednesday, taking the death toll to 9,310. It has now been witnessing 20 or more deaths daily for the past 10 days. The state has seen 215 deaths in the 10-day period.

In the last 24 hours, 8,428 new Covid cases have been reported, bringing the overall tally to 12,21,061. Active cases in the state decreased from 63,036 to 58,603. Five deaths were reported from Jaipur; three from Bharatpur, two each from Sriganganagar, Jhunjhunu and Rajsamand; one each from Kota, Sikar, Udaipur, Ajmer, Alwar, Bhilwara, Dausa and Jodhpur.

Jaipur reported 1,944 new cases. Active cases in the city decreased from 15,549 to 14,162 in 24 hours.

Although most patients have mild infection, the number of patients requiring oxygen support and hospitalisation has slowly gone up in the last 7 to 10 days, health experts said. The onslaught of the Omicron variant has already plateaued and the situation will be under control by the end of this month. However, there is a need to remain vigilant, they said.

"A dangerous trend that has been noticed is that people having fever for two days take it lightly and return to work after it subsides without getting tested. It needs to be stressed that if you are displaying Covid symptoms, you must get tested..."

"...All of us have children or elderly people around us and they need to be protected. The disease can turn out to be complicated for children as they are not vaccinated. It is important that people get tested, follow the proper quarantine and not treat Omicron like mild flu," said Dr Shivani Swami, consultant pulmonologist at a private hospital.

Besides, 12,839 persons recovered from the virus on the day.
