Jaipur: Rs 2.31 crore in cash and one kg of gold were recovered from a cupboard in the basement of the government’s Yojna Bhawan in Jaipur. Police have detained seven employees of Yojana Bhavan, who had access to the basement, in this connection. The police is also examining the CCTV footage there.
Sources say that there were notes of 2000 and 500 rupees in the suitcase kept in this cupboard. The seizure was made on Friday when the Reserve Bank of India announced the withdrawal of Rs 2,000 notes from circulation.
After the matter was reported to the Chief Minister, the Chief Secretary Usha Sharma, Director General of Police (DGP) Umesh Mishra and Jaipur Police Commissioner Anand Srivastava held a joint press conference at the Secretariat.
Srivastava said that the files in the vault from where the cash and gold were found are being scanned and digitized under the e-filing project. Two almirahs were locked, their keys were not found. The locks were broken. Files were found in one almirah, while a suitcase was found in another almirah. When it was opened it was full of notes and gold. (with Agency inputs)
