Rajasthan: Covid cases fall by 42%, deaths by 20% in 16 days

JAIPUR: In the first eight days of February, 139 persons died of Covid in the state in comparison to 173 fatalities in last eight days of January, .

The state had reported 19.6% decrease in Covid deaths in first eight days of February as compared to last eight days of January. However, during the same period, Covid cases have also reduced by 42%.

A senior health department official said that while cases have reduced at rapid pace, the deaths have reduced too, but not in that proportion in which Covid cases have decreased. The state reported 3,479 new Covid cases in 24 hours bringing its overall tally to12,50,891. Sixteen persons died too, taking the toll to 9,407.

The active cases in the state decreased from 40,880 to 37,278. Jaipur reported 1140 Covid-19 cases. Active cases in Jaipur have decreased from 9,676 to 9,236 in 24 hours.

Four deaths each were reported from Jaipur, two deaths each were reported from Bikaner, Jodhpur and one death each was reported from Kota, Sikar, Sirohi, Ajmer, Alwar, Baran, Churu and Jhunjhunu.

Health department officials said that most of the deaths are happening among those who have comorbidities. “A 60-year-old person died of covid who died at district hospital in Sikar had chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and he suffered cardiac pulmonary arrest,” said Dr Ajay Chaudhary, chief medical health officer, Sikar.
