Rajasthan: 25% of total Covid cases in January and February

JAIPUR: In just one-and-a-half months, the state has reported 25% of Covid cases since it was first detected in March 2020.

Health department officials said the Omicron variant, which is dominating the third wave of Covid, has spread at a rapid pace in January and February.

The pace at which the virus has spread in the third wave can be gauged by the fact that out of 12.69 lakh cases reported in the state, 3.13lakh have been reported in two months. The state reported 1,702 new cases in the past 24 hours taking its overall tally to 12,69,974. The casualty count touched 9,494 with 13 fresh deaths.

Active cases decreased from 17,976 to 16,096. Jaipur reported 454 cases and its active cases decreased from 5,565 to 4,879 in 24 hours.

Two deaths each were reported from Sikar, Barmer and one fatality each was reported from Kota, Nagaur, Udaipur, Jodhpur, Jhalawar, Jaipur, Bikaner, Bharatpur and Ajmer.

In January, the state reported 2.5 lakh Covid cases, accounting for 19.7% of cumulative cases since March 2020. Deaths due to Covid have been increasing for the past two days. On Monday, the state had reported six deaths, which rose to 12 on Tuesday and 13 on Wednesday.

Active cases have also been reducing for the past few days. Four districts — Bundi (45), Chittorgarh (70), Jalore (11) and Pali (83) — have now less than 100 active cases.

A health department official said 3,569 persons had recovered from Covid in the past 24 hours. More than 99% patients are recovering under home isolation as they did not require hospitalisation.
