The rainy season has likely ended in regions including Tokyo and Nagoya, the weather agency said on Monday, with the Japanese capital marking the first "extremely hot" day of the year as the mercury hit 35C.
Most of Japan was placed on alert for heatstroke on the final day of a three-day weekend. According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, temperatures reached 30C or higher at more than 600 of its 914 observation points on Monday morning.
