Rail chaos will continue over Christmas as latest pay offer rejected

Days of disruption on the nation's railways will go ahead this Christmas after union members rejected the latest pay offer.

Members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport union (RMT) at 14 train companies and Network Rail will now press ahead with two 48-hour strikes from as early as tomorrow (December 12). However, a strike by members of Unite at Network Rail will not go ahead after they voted to accept the offer.

It comes after a long and bitter pay dispute between the RMT and the government. The RMT said 63.6% voted to reject Network Rail’s offer on an 83% turnout.
