The squeaky wheel gets the grease. That is a pretty common theme in the NFL as star wide receivers have been known to ask for the ball. Davante Adams did that last week, complaining to the media about his lack of touches in the offense.
The Raiders got Adams involved early and often in Week 7, helping him get back on track. The offense did not move the ball particularly well against the Bears, but Adams did catch seven passes.
In a recent article by ESPN, they wrote about the players who stock their rise after Week 8. For the Raiders, that was none other than Adams. Here is what the site had to say about the All-Pro receiver from the Raiders:
After voicing his frustrations on not having a bigger role on the offense, the All-Pro receiver had three catches for 29 yards on the Raiders’ first drive, bettering and equaling his numbers from last week’s game (two catches for 29 yards).
In fact, through three drives, Hoyer was 5-of-7 for 48 yards targeting Adams and 0-for-3 with an INT targeting all others, as Adams finished with seven catches for 57 yards on 11 targets.
It wasn’t a perfect game for Adams, who did drop a few passes. There was also an end zone target that just went off of his fingers that is usually caught. But the Raiders did get him more involved as he and Jakobi Meyers combined for 25 targets.
Will this trend continue in Week 8 with Jimmy Garoppolo under center? It better, as Adams is the only hope for the Raiders to have a functional offense moving forward.
