Mock draft season is here for the Raiders as the team owns the No. 7 pick. With a ton of holes on both sides of the ball, it will be fascinating to see what Dave Zigler and Josh McDaniels do with their top pick.
One very real possibility is that Las Vegas continues to invest in their offensive line. And that’s exactly what Dane Brugler has them doing in his second mock of the year.
Brugler has them picking Ohio State offensive tackle Paris Johnson Jr., who played left tackle for the Buckeyes last season. Here is what he had to say about that possible fit:
“With Derek Carr on his way out the door, we know the Raiders will be doing their homework on this quarterback class. They might not be in a position to get their top-ranked guy, though.
The Raiders got better-than-expected play this season from right tackle Jermaine Eluemunor, but he is a free agent, and investing in the offensive line is never a bad way to go. Paris Johnson Jr. is a fluid big man with length and power and the gifts to recover when he misfires his punch.”
The Raiders are still expected to try to retain Eluemunor, but that could be more as a swing tackle or an option at right guard. They do need a long-term solution at that spot, especially if they are looking to add someone like Tom Brady at quarterback.
Expect the Raiders to really invest in their offensive line during this off-season. Don’t be surprised if they use their top pick on one of the best offensive tackles in the class.
