PHUKET: Police seized 26 firearms and 495 rounds of ammunition in 39 cases during a nine-day crackdown targeting illegal weapons across the province.
Pol Lt Gen Sinlert Sukhum, Phuket provincial police commander, said on Saturday the operation, conducted from Aug 12–20, involved all 12 police stations under the Phuket Provincial Police command and was carried out by the Centre for Coordination of Crime Suppression.
Police had set a target of 45 cases but recorded 39 cases during the operation.
Officers also seized 13 other firearm-related items, he said.
He said the crackdown focused on intelligence gathering, identifying targets and conducting searches to prevent illegal firearms from being used in violent crimes.
The operation forms part of measures to reduce risks to life and property and strengthen security for residents and tourists across Phuket, he said.
