Former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi will be visiting violence-hit Manipur on June 29 and 30, the Congress announced on June 27.
This is the first visit of the Congress leader to the State embroiled in ethnic violence since early May.
"Sh. Rahul Gandhi ji will be visiting Manipur on 29-30 June. He will visit relief camps and interact with civil society representatives in Imphal and Churachandpur during his visit," Mr. Venugopal tweeted.
The Congress has been questioning Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s silence on Manipur violence.
Last Saturday, when Home Minister Amit Shah had convened a meeting of all parties in Delhi, Mr. Gandhi had tweeted to question the government’s seriousness on the issue.
“An all-party meeting is called when the Prime Minister is not in the country. It is clear this meeting is not important for the Prime Minister,” Mr. Gandhi had tweeted.
Since May 3, over 120 lives have been loat and thousands of people have been displaced in communal clashes between Meiteis and Kukis in Manipur.
