Raheem Sterling must face Liverpool truth as transfer confirmed

Here is your Liverpool morning digest for Wednesday, June 29.

Raheem Sterling must face truth about Liverpool as Man City make their feelings clear

Raheem Sterling is not a popular man when it comes to Liverpool fans. Such a fact is not news, with the England international burning his Reds bridges when forcing through his £49m transfer to Manchester City back in the summer of 2015.

That might have been seven years ago now, with his former club going from strength-to-strength under Jurgen Klopp following his exit, and emerging as City’s closest title rivals in recent years, but that has been little consolation to Kopites. When it comes to Sterling, time has been no healer.

Ever since Jon Flanagan flew into the winger to roaring cheers in the opening minutes of his Anfield return in March 2016, just days after City had overcome the Reds in the League Cup final at Wembley, he has been made well-aware of his standing with his departure taken most personally. This is war.

With his every touch booed, it’s telling that the one time he has scored at his old stomping ground and tasted victory came in February 2021, behind closed doors, at a time when the coronavirus pandemic kept fans away from stadiums. Otherwise, for the majority of clashes with Liverpool, he has been withdrawn early following ineffectual displays or even been taken out of the firing line and left out of the starting XI.

Takumi Minamino transfer from Liverpool to Monaco confirmed as fee and clauses revealed

Takumi Minamino has left Liverpool after completing his move to Monaco. The Reds agreed a deal which could be worth up to £15.5m for the Japan international last week. It’s understood they will receive £12.9m up front from the Ligue 1 club, with up to a further £2.6m in add-ons.

Moving to Anfield from Red Bull Salzburg in a £7.25m transfer in January 2020, the deal with Monaco sees Liverpool bank a healthy profit for a player who has rarely been more than fringe player under Jurgen Klopp.

After spending the second half of the 2020/21 season on loan at Southampton, the 27-year-old scored 10 goals from 24 appearances last season as he top scored for the Reds in both domestic cups as they won the FA Cup and League Cup. However, game-time remained limited as he made just 11 appearances in the Premier League with only one coming from the start.
